Day Visit to Green Island

The other day a friend and I decided to make a trip over to Green Island off the coast of Cairns. We took the day off from seeing clients so we could enjoy what Green Island had to offer.

We caught the Fast Cat across which took about an hour and a bit. It was a beautiful sunny day which made the trip over really lovely. I haven’t actually been to the island before so it was really fun to do it with a good friend. It is definitely worth a visit if you are in Cairns or visiting Cairns.

When we got there, both of us forgot to take towels with us so we had to hire some so we could go swimming down at the beach. (I got a little, ok a lot sunburnt) Its been ages since I have been able to actually go swimming at the beach because as you know swimming at the beach in FNQ can be a little difficult at times due to stingers and the like. While we were in the water there was this huge fish (not sure exactly what type it was) that kept circling us while we were swimming which was cool. It was so refreshing to enjoy the beach and have a great swim. While we were swimming we met some really friendly people from all over the world on holidays and had some great chats with them.

We also decided we would go on the Glass Bottom Boat to check out the Great Barrier Reef. We saw them do a daily feeding of the fish which bought swarms of fish to the area around out boat which was awesome, it was cool to check out some of the different types of fish swimming around. At one point we even saw a turtle go past. I got some great photos while we were out on the boat which was pretty cool.

Overall we had a really fun day out there we didn’t get back into Cairns until about 5pm by which stage we were both a little sunburnt, a little tired, ready for dinner and overall ready to head to bed. It was really nice to spend the day out there with a friend and playing the tourist for the day. We had a look around the island, had a great swim, and enjoyed checking out the barrier reef. It was nice to take the day off not think about answering our phones and just enjoy having the day to ourselves.
