The day I spent on Green Island – Exploring the Barrier Reef and soaking up the sun
The other day, my friend and I decided to take a break from work and explore Green Island off the coast of Cairns. We were both excited to see what the island had in store for us.
We boarded the Fast Cat and enjoyed a pleasant journey that lasted about an hour and a bit. The weather was fantastic, with the sun shining bright and the sea sparkling. As a first-timer on the island, I was thrilled to have my friend along for the adventure. I highly recommend Green Island to anyone visiting Cairns.
Upon arrival, we realized we forgot to bring towels, so we rented some to go swimming at the beach. Despite getting a little sunburnt, it was such a refreshing experience to swim in the beach waters after a long time. We even had a huge fish, which I’m not sure of the type, swimming around us while we were in the water. We met some fantastic folks from different parts of the world on holiday, and we enjoyed having great conversations with them.
Later, we decided to take a Glass Bottom Boat tour to explore the Great Barrier Reef. We witnessed the daily feeding of the fish, which attracted an impressive number of fish around our boat. It was breathtaking to observe the different types of fish swimming around, and we even caught a glimpse of a turtle. I was thrilled to capture some amazing photos while we were on the boat.
Overall, we had an incredible time on the island. We returned to Cairns at around 5 pm, feeling a little sunburnt and exhausted but satisfied with the adventure we had. Spending the day on the island with my friend and being tourists for the day was an unforgettable experience. We explored the island, swam at the beach, and admired the Great Barrier Reef. It was refreshing to disconnect from our phones for the day and enjoy each other’s company.
